VCN – Tens of tonnes of used plated of lead-acid accumulator which were disposed of and in the list of goods prohibited from imported was declared as "pressed, unrefined lead" but was discovered and prevented in time by Hai Phong Customs.
According to source, on February 4, 2020, MHP Trading and Forwarding Service Co., Ltd (located in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) carried out procedures for importing consignments at Hai Phong port area 1 Customs Branch (Hai Phong Customs Department).
According to the declaration, goods were "pressed, unrefined lead (78.5% lead content)", size 33x16x21 cm, volume was 49.2 tonnes packed in two containers transported from Taiwan to Hai Phong port on February 4, 2020.
Due to suspision about the types of goods, on February 7, 2020, Hai Phong port area 1 Customs Branch conducted physical inspection for all shipments.
The results of Vinacontrol Hai Phong showed the above shipment was "used plates of lead-acid accumulator and were disposed". This item was hazardous waste with code 16 01 12 in Appendix 1 of Hazardous Waste List issued and attached to Circular No. 36/2015/TT-BTNMT dated June 30, 2015 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The case is being investigated and verified by Hai Phong Customs Department in coordination with Hai Phong City Police.
