Deploying the plans and direction of the leaders of the General Department of Customs on strengthening management of temporary imports for re-export business, the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department and Cao Bang Customs Department are increasing forces and equipment for patrolling, controlling and supervising crucial areas with high risks of smuggling and illicit cross-border transportation of goods.
Particularly, the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department arranged nearly 10 civil servants (belonging to the Northern Anti-smuggling Enforcement Team - Team 1 and the online Customs Supervision Division - Division 3), two or three times more than normal.
Two specialised cars for online surveillance of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department in the North were also sent to the Cao Bang border area.
One evening at the end of October, we followed a specialised car to monitor online some officials of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department in patrolling the border area from Ban Gioc Waterfall (Trung Khanh district) to Ly Van border gate (Ha Lang district), including the "Landmark 51" area (new landmark: 842, 843, 844) of Lung Da hamlet, Minh Long commune (Ha Lang district) - an area with high potential of smuggling and illicit cross-border transportation of goods.

When the car suddenly plunged into the "Landmark 51" area, we found a man beside the fire in a house facing the Que Son River. “This is a stool pigeon at the area,” an officer of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department explained. Photo: T. Binh.
