VCN- Talking to the media recently about the agricultural development issues, Mr. Truong Gia Binh (photo), Chairman of the Private Sector Development Center (PSDC) of the Advisory Council on Procedures Reform President of FPT Corporation, said that agriculture cannot be separated from industry. The fourth industrial revolution will push the agricultural industry to a new height.
From your point of view, Vietnam has three potential areas, namely IT, agriculture and tourism. If comparing the 3 areas, what is the position of the agricultural industry, Sir?
I will rank the agricultural industry at the first position, the following is IT and tourism. Now, many countries with a developed agricultural industry are “hot countries” or “cold countries”. They have only 1% of their population engaged in agriculture. Meanwhile, Vietnam has great conditions for agriculture production as we do not waste money to cool in summer and heat in winter. We have opportunities to establish powerful agricultural corporations. I believe that one day, Vietnam will become an agricultural power.
What are the typical difficulties that Vietnam’s agriculture products have faced in the market?
Vietnam's agricultural products’ market is now quite difficult, as witnessed with the “continuous rescues” for agricultural products, from the “rescue” of watermelon, dragon fruit, sweet potato.... The most important thing is to find a solution to end this situation.
I think that, to do this, first of all, we must have up-to-date and complete information for everyone. In the fourth technology era, there is no reason that manufacturers do not have information about the products they are producing. In addition, there must be the role of agricultural “giants” to regulate “international traders”.
In my opinion, agriculture must be tied with industry. Because, if there is a lack of processing plants, we must “rescue” agricultural products year-round. Currently, most agricultural products are fresh, such as vegetables, fruits, seafood, which need a network transport infrastructure, even more necessary than the industry. Due to lacking processing plants and infrastructure, fresh food is constantly losing, causing rescues.
There are a lot of things to do. We must see the full potential of Vietnamese agriculture. With information technology, software, it is strange that we don’t have a name in the world so far, there is no reason that the agricultural sector with its potential and plentiful labor as now, that we cannot become an agricultural power.

What do you think about the role of the fourth industrial revolution for Vietnamese agriculture?
I think the fourth industrial revolution will push the agriculture to new heights. For example, FPT Corporation has signed a cooperation agreement with “the king of egg” in Japan (FPT signed a cooperation agreement to apply new technologies to develop smart egg production plants in Japan and Vietnam with ISE Foods Group, Japan). This unit wants to build a factory in Vietnam. The factory will control all parameters of the egg. As a result, one egg may be full of vitamins and one egg is enough for one meal. Technology is going very far. It can help us walk with the new era.
Thank you, sir!
Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development: the MARD is ready to accompany the businesses
After 40 years of implementation of the restructuring project of agriculture, Vietnam has made many changes in the direction of promoting full advantages of each locality, region, and each area. Vietnam's products are available in more than 180 countries. We have the main agricultural products, confirming the position in the international market with 10 export items worth multi-billion USD. Of which, the exports of shrimp, fruit, coffee, cashew nut, wood are over $US 3 billion.
Over time, the application of science and technology has brought a very high productivity. According to the report, up to now, there are 818 models of safe agricultural product supply. I agree that there are still dirty products, but there is also the positive sign that many products have been exported to the difficult markets, such as the EU. In the coming time, the MARD is ready to accompany the enterprises to jointly develop and improve the quality of agricultural products and export to other markets in the world. The most important thing is that we must coordinate to implement policies effectively.
Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director General of Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade: "the ace" for agricultural development is the mechanism
In investment in the various fields in general, agriculture in particular, businesses need capital, land, but the most need is for the mechanism, which is allowed and encouraged by the Government, the State... This is the next issue to resolve and facilitate in the coming time.

In terms of export markets in general, agricultural products in particular, Vietnam now has six major export markets accounting for 77% of total exports, including China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, the ASEAN and the EU. The dependence of some markets is a matter to be considered. However, this can also be regarded as the fulcrum for Vietnam to diversify its market. In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will actively support enterprises in looking for new export markets. In the domestic market alone, changes in production are very important for agriculture.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, President of VietTrace Verified Company: Need model of application of blockchain technology in agricultural production
In the stages of supporting farmers to apply technology, I found that data information for farmers is still difficult. We are working on an app to help farmers keep up to date with information, reducing writing.
Blockchain is a method that can be used in agricultural models and offers high applicability. However, the application of blockchain technology to agricultural production is almost a demo model, there is no specific practical model applied widely. We need a good technology model to connect with farmers and apply their practicality to production as efficiently as possible.
Mr. Vo Van Quang, Deputy General Director of North Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank: Technology is not only an opportunity for businesses but also for banks
In 2009, North Asia Joint Stock Commercial Bank started investing in TH Group to raise dairy cattle. In fact, banks are very afraid of business loans in agriculture because many dairy farmers have failed, including projects of state enterprises. However, TH has done quite differently from traditional enterprises. Accordingly, TH has applied Israeli technology - advanced technology in dairy farming from grass planting. Cattle management techniques apply advanced technology such as implanting cattle with microchips to be able to know all the health conditions, diseases and productivity of cattle.
Initially, this project encountered many difficulties because of large scale investment, synchronicity, large capital, while financial capacity of enterprises is limited, business administration is still limited. Banks and enterprises have worked together in many management stages, finding suitable outputs... After 10 years, the results are very good. TH True Milk market has been accepted both domestically and abroad. Thereby, technology is not only an opportunity for businesses but also for banks.
Mr. Dam Quang Thang, General Director of Agricare Company: only selling what we have is difficult to do
In order to develop agriculture, firstly, it is necessary to change the habits and thoughts of farmers. Because if you follow the self-sufficiency model of farmers, only selling what they have is difficult to do.
At present, Vietnamese agricultural products are too expensive, not competitive in the world market, even is criticized as expensive when offering to the Chinese market. In addition, due to lack of preservation technology, enterprises are often at risk of losing their export products. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the application of technology in agriculture.
The technology currently has three sources: importers, local researchers from institutes, universities and from researchers, non-professionals. Vietnam should have the best legal framework for the application of technology, especially the domestic patent technology.
