Vietnam will temporarily suspend any foreign arrivals in the country as of March 22 in an effort to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to the wider community, according to the Government Office.
The decision, coming into effect as from 00.00hr (local time), applies to all foreigners, except for those entering Vietnam for diplomatic and official purposes or for those wishing to enter Vietnam for key diplomatic events, specialists, business managers and highly skilled workers.
To stamp out the spread of the novel coronavirus epidemic,
Foreign representative offices and organisations in Vietnam were required to carry out medical surveillance of their citizens during their working time in Vietnam.
Vietnam will also temporarily suspend holders of the Certificate of Visa Exemption granted to citizens of Vietnamese origin and their relatives, as of 00.00hr March 22. The Ministry of Health was assigned the responsibility for implementing the decision according to the law.
The government asked relevant agencies to strictly control the entry of people by sea, road and air.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed diplomatic representative agencies and representative offices of international organisations in Vietnam as well as Vietnam’s diplomatic representative offices abroad about the decision.
