Khat leaves were seized by Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs and the joint forces

This is the fifth case (4 cases imported from Africa and 1 for export to the US) in which functional forces have continued to detect and prevent illegal transport of Khat leaves, and seized more than 1.1 tons of dried khat.

As the investigation expanded, functional forces found 100 kg from an importing company which is operated by an African organisation.

1.2 tons of Khat if transported illegally to Europe or the US would have an estimated value of more than USD $2.2 million.

According to Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Department, this seizure at Tan Son Nhat International Airport revealed a new method for transporting new drugs. After smuggling to Vietnam, a large amount of Khat leaves are a unit under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development licensed to export to the US market as " HENNA Leaf ", originating from Vietnam .

The functional forces are expanding the investigation to clarify the case and related objects.
