1. According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in the first month of 2016, a 7.4% decrease in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of December, 2015. In which, exports went down 2.7 %, to USD 13.36 billion and imports shrunk 11.9%, to USD 12.60 billion. As a result, there was a USD 765 million surplus in Vietnam’s trade balance in this month. In comparison with performance of the same period of 2015, there were downwards in total value of both merchandise exports and merchandise imports with the respective percentages: -1.0% and -10.7%. 2. Trade data disseminated recently by Vietnam Customs announced that the total value of exportation and importation by foreign direct invested (FDI) traders reached USD 16.4 billion in total for the first month of 2016, down by 6.6 % as compared to the result of January, 2015. Total value of FDI exportation was USD 9.04 billion, declined by 0.9%. On import side, the total value of those companies was USD 7.18 billion, went down by 13.0%.
Main Exports and Imports 3. The December of 2015 to January of 2016 decrease in total merchandise exports was due to the downturns in crude oil (down by USD 119 million); textiles and garments (down by USD 204 million); wood and wooden products (down by USD 149 million).
4. The December of 2015 to January of 2016 decrease in total merchandise imports was due to the downwards in machine, equipment, tools and instruments (down by USD 382 million); motor vehicles (down by USD 248 million); petroleum products (down by USD 178 million)…
Trading Partners 5. In the first month of 2016, Vietnamese merchandise trade with trading partners in Asia was totaled USD 16.50 billion in value terms, which moved down 8.2% as compared to the same period of 2015. Trade-in-goods of Vietnam with America was followed, which reached USD 4.60 billion and increased by 7.7%. The values of other continents were Europe: USD 3.90 billion, down by 11.8%; Oceania: USD 385.6 million, down by 10.1% and Africa: USD 523.8 million, up by 12.5% in comparison with the same period of last year.
6. In January of 2016, 3 exporting markets of Vietnam with turnover of over USD 1 billion were: The United States of America (reached USD 3.0 billion); China (reached USD 1.3 billion) and Japan (reached USD 1.2 billion).
7. On import side, there were three partners exporting goods to Vietnam with turnover of over 1billion. They were as follows: China (reached USD 3.9 billion); Republic of Korea (reached USD 2.1 billion) and Japan (reached USD 1. 0 billion).
