VCN- According to Ha Noi Customs Department and Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, since 1st January 2017 to present day, 9,320 Bitcoin and Litecoin diggers (automatic data processing machines for exploiting online virtual currency) were imported into Vietnam.

Especially, 2,315 diggers were imported via Ha Noi Customs Department, and 7,005 diggers were imported via Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC), through monitoring the imports of Bitcoin and Litecoin virtual currency diggers, it shows that the quantity of these imported diggers is increasing.
These imported goods were stated in Customs declaration as; Antminer server, Litecoin algorithm data processing machines and Dashcoin miner server, originating from China. They are mainly imported via aviation and express delivery services. The importers are companies and some individuals and organizations without Tax codes.
Regarding the management for imported Bitcoin, Litecoin diggers, the GDVC issued an Official Letter to request ministries and sectors, including the State bank of Vietnam, Ministry of Information and Communications and Ministry of Industry and Trade to consult this problem.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Justice, and the State Bank of Vietnam, the items are not subject to lists of banned imported goods. The list of imported goods under license and specialized inspection by the State Bank of Vietnam was issued and enclosed with the Government’s Decree 187/2013/ND-CP. Therefore, the Customs procedures are carried out in accordance with the current provisions.

However, in fact, in order to use Bitcoin and other similar virtual currencies, there has to be automatic data processing machines for exploiting online virtual currency.
Thereby, in order to ensure Customs management and compliance with provisions in the Government’s Decree 101/2012/ ND-CP, the GDVC requested the General Department of Security to coordinate in supervision and management of goods after Customs clearance.
At the same time, the General Department of Customs also has requested local Customs units to closely monitor and inspect the imports of Bitcoin, Litecoin automatic data processing machines for exploiting online virtual currency to report upon request.
